Berkeley City Council Meeting on the Stadium Upgrade Project

Cal fans are encouraged to attend the Berkeley City Council meeting today.  The following is the text of an email chain that is being circulated:

“Now that we have won in impressive fashion over the Vols, and gained more national respect, it is time to do something about securing Coach Tedford and excellence in football for the long run....can you imagine what will happen if we could not continue with the Stadium project? The Berkeley City Council will be holding a special meeting on Tuesday that has been called by Mayor Tom Bates. The sole topic for discussion will be the lawsuit. The meeting details are just below. At that time, there will be an opportunity for all interested parties to give public testimony before the council retires to closed session for discussion and possible decision-making. It will be CRITICAL that a large group of supporters show up in force at that time. Please come to the meeting -- let your friends/colleagues know.”

“Wow- what a game!! It was an amazingly successful effort by our team.........[We need ] to rally students, faculty and staff alike to come to the City Council Meeting that evening. We have been told that the Save the Oaks people are asking all their supporters to be there about 4 pm to 'overwhelm' the Council by their numbers alone. Probably the Panoramic Hill group will ask the same. We must follow suit! Although the meeting is at 5:00, please come at 4:00 and begin to congregate and a group to show our support. This is our last true chance to convince the Council to withdraw the lawsuit and we must have strength in numbers. Come to the meeting...bring friends...spread the word. To recap, the details are:

Tuesday, September 4th at 4:00 PM (meeting starts at 5:00 PM)

Berkeley Unified School District Offices

Old City Hall Building, 2nd floor

2134 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way

Berkeley, CA”
